Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph previously existed as two separate agencies in Guelph.  The former Big Brother Association of Guelph & Wellington County was formed in the fall of 1968 while the former Big Sister Association of Guelph held its first organized meeting in September 1972 and received charitable status in 1975.

In 2001, Big Brothers and Big Sisters amalgamated nationally, becoming Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, creating a standardized system for both Big Brother and Big Sister agencies across Canada to offer their programs.  Since 2001, The Big Brother Association of Guelph & Wellington County and The Big Sister Association of Guelph had been exploring ways to work together to more effectively and efficiently meet the needs of children in our community.  In May 2003, these 2 agencies amalgamated to become Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph (BBBSG).

Our merged agency has over 60 years of combined experience to provide preventive mentoring programs to the children and youth within Guelph and its surrounding areas, including Rockwood, Puslinch, Morriston, and Aberfoyle.  We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph is a member agency of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC), the leading child and youth serving organization which has provided mentoring programs across the country for over 80 years.  As a national organization it provides services and programs to 190 member agencies serving more than 300 communities across Canada, assisting the agencies with their hands-on work with parents, children, and volunteers.  Ranging from staff training workshops to our leading Child Safety Program, which includes an emphasis on sexual abuse prevention, BBBSC works diligently to ensure program quality is superior in all parts of the country.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph remains accountable to the families and communities we serve through our Board of Directors' governance, and through our reporting requirements, agency reviews, and the operating standards set by BBBSC.
