“LEARN TO BE A KID AGAIN!” BBBSG KICKS OFF NATIONAL AWARENESS MONTH To celebrate National Big Brother Big Sister Awareness Month, our agency has several events planned throughout September. With approximately 100 children waiting to be matched with an adult volunteer, BBBSG is asking all members of the community to ‘Learn to be a kid again!’ and get more involved. BBBSG President Michael Fox officially kicked things off on September 1st with two morning interviews on Magic 106.1 (8:45 a.m.) and 1460 CJOY (8:20 a.m.). BBBSG is encouraging everyone to listen to both stations every Friday morning throughout September to hear volunteers share their personal experiences about BBBSG on air. Each week, a different volunteer will speak about how the agency has affected them from their own unique perspective. On September 5th, Guelph Mayor Kate Quarrie raised the agency flag in honour of Big Brother Big Sister Month. This is the second year in a row that our agency flag will fly alongside our National, Provincial, and Municipal flags to celebrate BBBS Month. There are several other opportunities throughout the month for people to come out and learn more about the agency. There will be a BBBSG window display from September 11th to the 15th at the Volunteer Centre of Guelph & Wellington on 46 Cork St. E., a BBBSG information/recruitment booth at the Exhibition Park Neighborhood Picnic on September 17th (2-5 p.m.) and at the University of Guelph’s football game on September 23rd. The University will also be hosting an Aerobathon fundraiser with partial proceeds going to BBBSG that same morning in part with their homecoming activities (please see www.athletics.uoguelph.ca for more information). Please help us to increase awareness this month as we continue to stress volunteer recruitment as our main area of focus.
